Since LEDs first made it to market over 30 years ago, we have seen many new and innovative ways of using them. The global pandemic caused by Covid-19 has seen the rise of even more interesting and creative uses for LEDs, thanks to their sterilisation capabilities.
One exciting new addition to this list was announced recently by global ATM supplier Hyosung. This new product offering came about as fears around using ATMs has increased tenfold. After all, an ATM is in most cases an unmanned service, so it is impractical to expect that it will have been cleaned and disinfected after every use. Understandably that leaves consumers wondering when the last time they were serviced was or whether someone who carried the virus had been touching it just before them…
“The well-being of our ATM users is of the utmost importance, and we began working as soon as the pandemic arrived to design a solution to maximize the safety of our ATMs,” said Hyosung America CEO Hee-Eun Ahn. “Hyosung wanted to provide a comprehensive solution to address concerns today as well as into the future.”
It has been announced that from next Autumn, disinfection upgrade kits will be available for Hyosung ATMs. Each disinfection upgrade kit will be installed by certified technicians and include the following features:
The upgrade kit will feature violet blue LED lights to disinfect the most common ATM touchpoints including the touchscreen and keypad, providing 99% sterilisation. A violet blue LED light was selected because unlike UV light, it is harmless to humans and is already commonly used as a disinfectant in the medical field.
For further protection, Hyosung is utilising silver ion technology, which provides a 99.9% microbe growth reduction rate. Their antimicrobial touchscreen and keypad upgrades provide permanent protection by continuously inhibiting the growth of microbes such as bacteria, fungi and viruses.
This unique two-step approach provides superior protection and peace of mind for ATM users.
